The Coaching Process
Consultations
What makes life coaching different from therapy?
In contrast to therapy, which helps people to examine their past and resolve personal issues, life coaching is forward-focused and action-oriented.
In the context of life coaching, you are "well" already. Together we build on your innate resourcefulness, creativity and wholeness to empower you to set—and achieve—your writing and life goals.
What are your fees for life coaching?
Coaching fees range from $79 to $390 per month, depending on the type of coaching services you choose and the number of times we meet per month.
Why do writers need a life coach?
Many people find it difficult to write well on their own.
I help writers create time, structure and accountability.
Who do you work with?
I work with professional writers in a variety of fields, including
journalists, academics, marketing/communications writers, technical writers, and people working in advertising, publicity and media.
Do you work with non-professional writers and other creative types, too?
Yes! Although my specialty is working with professional writers, I help other professionals and creative types who want to work on time-management, life balance and life direction.

What are typical coaching concerns?
You may want to hire me if you need help:
- creating writing time
- managing projects
- staying focused
- living with more clarity, balance and purpose
How do you move clients forward?
I guide clients through four simple steps:
- clarify intentions
- cultivate focus and articulate writing goals
- develop work habits
- cultivate creative community and stimulate artistic growth
Not everyone needs each step. After your intake session, we will discuss how best to adapt the four-step process to your individual needs.
How does the coaching relationship work?
You call me from the convenience of your office or home for your regularly schedule appointment. Together we form a powerful co-active coaching alliance, a relationship that will enable you to make more progress together than you ever could alone.
You bring your own agenda to each session—the process is wholly focused on your specific needs.
After our meetings, you take away a focused action plan to guide your efforts between coaching sessions.
Between coaching sessions, you work on homework I’ve assigned or action steps you’ve created for yourself during our meeting. Coaching is like taking a class. The subject? You!
How do you begin the coaching relationship?
First, we explore working together during a complimentary 45-minute coaching consultation.
Coaching is a unique relationship, one that's "co-created" between coach and client. The coaching relationship has to feel right to both of us for it to work, and the coaching consultation is the perfect opportunity for you to get your questions answered, and for each of us to see if we’re a good match.
People engage a coach as long as the relationship benefits them—anywhere from three months to two years is typical.
What happens during a complimentary coaching consultation?
I will give you several questions to consider before our scheduled 45-minute consultation. During our meeting, we will discuss your answers, and I will provide you with valuable feedback and insight, giving you an authentic experience of coaching. The consultation gives you a chance to see if coaching is right for you, and gives us both the opportunity to see if we might work well together.
